The colorful Japanese dragon, a half of their cultural mythology for hundreds of years, represents stability, freedom, and good luck. Its fearsome and warlike qualities make it a wonderful ally or a fierce enemy. Most people have heard stories in regards to the knight slaying the dragon and winning the love of the princess. Among many historic cultures, slaying the dragon is amongst the highest honors a person can obtain. Think of the stories of St. George or Beowulf, although in each, the dragon may also characterize pre-Christian thought. The Eastern dragon is seen as a noble beast that offers knowledge and protection whereas in ancient Western tradition, it represents a much darker and extra threatening creature.
